| Raleigh News & Observer Friday, July 2, 1999 Volunteer Lynn Scott's job during the Special Olympics is to drive across the Triangle, picking up athletes, volunteers, and "honored guests." Driving around day after day, she noticed the number of Special Olympics logos scattered across the area, on T-shirts, on signs, and splashed across roadside knolls with multicolored flowers. On Wednesday, she picked up an honored guest at a hotel. The woman in Scott's back seat didn't appear to be a movie star or famous model, so Scott asked her about her contribution to the special Olympics. "She told me, 'I did the official artwork,'" Scott said. The artists name is Gayle Kabaker, and she has worked for several Fortune 500 companies according to her agency. "The Special Olympics people gave me several words they wanted conveyed in their logo," Kabaker said" Things like enthusiasm, spirit, freedom. This was by far the most rewarding job I've ever done." Scott was impressed."Her work is everywhere," she said. "I just had to ask her for her autograph." |
